Ashiatsu Massage

Ashiatsu (ashi=foot, atsu=pressure) is an ancient practice in which the massage therapist uses her feet to deliver the massage. Ashiastu is approved by the NCBTMB (National Certification for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork), and recognized by the AMA (American Medical Association). This massage modality has been modernized in the West to include the use of a system of bars beautifully constructed from the ceiling. The therapist guides herself using the bars for balance and targeted weight distribution. Ashiatsu is well-documented and effective in the treatment of chronic back and neck pain.

Beginning in the East, Ashiatsu’s history spans several continents and more than 3,000 years. Many different styles of barefoot massage have originated from India, Japan, Thailand, China, and the Philippines. It is now administered in various forms across America and is widely accepted as a western adaption. Many clients cannot help but refer to this experience as “heavenly.” “The worst part about an Ashiatsu session is that it ends, as countless have exclaimed! Although this treatment may appear unconventional, this type of bodywork is being heralded as a luxurious, deep-tissue massage. At Theratopia, it is the most popular treatment for many of patrons including medical providers, corporate executives, teachers, athletes and care providers just to name a few.

Now available at Theratopia, Michelle offers this exclusive treatment for all those with tired, overworked, achy bodies! We are the first spa in the Rochester area to offer this treatment since 2009. Michelle has obtained mastery level certification in this modality and has practiced massage with success for 17 years.
